Do Not Fear…Do Not Be Dismayed…He Is Working

Isaiah 41+10

The very trials that threatened to overcome you with discouragement and disaster will become God’s opportunity to reveal His grace and glory in your life, in ways you have never known before. – Streams in Desert – L.B. Cowman

Blessing Begins with Acceptance

This peace that the Lord has promised to His children, that He freely gives starts and begins with our trust and faith in Him. Without faith and trust we cannot receive the blessings of God.

How can I say I want the “peace” which transcends all understanding and yet don’t believe the things the Lord has said? I will never be able to receive my Father’s gifts if I keep on rejecting them. Lack of faith, distrust and unbelief in God hinders us from receiving His blessings.

Believing, trusting and having faith in God gives you a peace that transcends all understanding. So when you believe, trust and have faith that God is going to be there for you, that He is present right now in this very moment and that no matter what happens or comes your way that God is sovereign, and victorious. Thus begins the peace that transcends all understanding.

Don’t make the mistake of believing or thinking that peace can only come through actualization of the things we so desperately want or receiving what we have prayed for. This is because peace is not always a specific outcome. Christ’s death at the cross was a victory but his disciples were shaken and could not understand the why of it all. However, they soon discovered Christ’s death at the cross brought us all so much. Peace is knowing, believing and having faith in God’s will. Regardless of all that is going on, knowing that God has the final say and He will not forsake, forget or abandon you. Peace ensures victory, victory does not ensure peace.

Walking Around In The Fire – Daniel 3:25

Teach me that the reason I must climb the hill is because Your house is there! Knowing this, I will not be hurt by sorrow, if I will only walk in the fire – George Matheson

Can you see how the stormy winds have won our deliverance??

deep water

As I read the devotional “Streams in the Desert by L.B. Cowman”, the thought that came to mind was – Can I not see that all the storms in my life have brought me deliverance? I only have to look at the bible and see the truth of these words. As with Joseph, the evil his brothers meant for him, God used it for good.  Same also with the Israelites, before they crossed the red sea. The Egyptian army behind them and the red sea in front of them. But yet that sea blocking their path parted and made way for them and Christ himself, his crucifixion – “For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God”.

Excerpts from Streams in the Desert – L.B. Cowman

The Lord made an east wind blow across the land all that day and all that night. By morning the wind had brought the locust…Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron…And the Lord changed the wind to a very strong west wind, which caught up the locusts and carried them into the Red Sea. Not a locust was left anywhere in Egypt. (Exodus 10:13, 16, 19).

In these verses we see how in ancient times, when the Lord fought for Israel against the cruel Pharaoh, it was stormy winds that won their deliverance. And again later, in the greatest display of His power, God struck the final blow to the proud defiance of Egypt with stormy winds. Yet at first it seemed that a strange and almost cruel thing was happening to Israel (How many times have I thought these words of my heavenly father, never seeing never understanding what was really at play) They were hemmed in by a multitude of dangers: in front, a raging sea defied them,; on either side, mountains cut off any hope of escape; and above them, a hurricane seemed to blow. It was as if the first deliverance had come only to hand them over to a more certain death. “The Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord” (Ex: 14:10) – very smart….cry out to the Lord always… (only option). Continue reading “Can you see how the stormy winds have won our deliverance??”

My Green Pastures…My Still Waters

As I read the verse “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake- Psalm 23:1-3 NIV

A thought struck me…. I have the green pastures and still waters where my soul is refreshed and God guides my steps. We all have the green pastures and still waters that David spoke of so long ago.

You see, Psalm 23 is a prayer about peace, grace and wisdom that so many of us pray for. The comfort and strength we crave for has been given to us all this time whenever we get alone with God. This is the peace, gift, wisdom, grace and mercy of the Lord. Think about it, the Lord makes me lie down in green pastures – the green pastures is the place in my heart and mind where it is just me and God. I am lying down in a beautiful garden where the Holy Spirit talks to me and intercedes on my behalf to my Father and communicates God’s will to me. The quietness and stillness that leads me to this beautiful oasis is the Holy Spirit leading me besides quiet waters. And as I mediated in the silence and converse with God the Holy Spirit refreshes my soul and as God directs my steps, thoughts and heart, He is guiding me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Amazing Father… in my heart and mind I find you. Thank you for making a place in my heart with you my green pastures, my still water and the place where my soul is refreshed. With this place I truly lack nothing…

I am child of God.. set free in peace and love
